Innovation agency the Technology Strategy Board has opened a new fund to develop new technologies that will help people suffering from chronic long-term conditions.
As part of their Assisted Living Innovation Platform, they have teamed up with the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to offer the £10 million Economic and Business Models and Social Behavioural Studies competition.
Grants worth between £250,000 and £2 million are available to “underpin the development of innovative, cost-effective user-centred services” and support the elderly and people with long-term medical conditions.
Funding is on offer for the following types of initiative:
* Economic and Business Models - projects that provide improved evidence that underpins industry and social enterprise, as well as encouraging additional investment into the development and implementation of assisted living services and technologies.
* Social and Behavioural Studies - projects that aim to improve understanding of the interactions between assisted living technologies/services with patients, families and communities.
Announcing the competition earlier this month, Iain Gray, chief executive of the Technology Strategy Board, said:
“Understanding the market for such products is a key step towards meeting the needs of users and service providers, so we need models that show the potential impact of such technology, in order to demonstrate their social and economic value.”
Expressions of interest must be submitted by 29 July – shortlisted bidders will be given until 14 October to complete a more in-depth application.
