Helping small North East firms to develop

Small firms in the North East are set to benefit from some of the techniques used to support their US counterparts in California.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed between business support organisation Small Business California and Business & Enterprise North East (BE-NE), which delivers the Business Link service and the Regional International Trade Office.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two grips will work together to share best practice on issues such as funding schemes and research findings. They will also combine forces to look at ways to further improve the support available to businesses.

BE-NE chief executive Alastair MacColl said: “The signing of the MOU marks the start of an ongoing relationship between Business & Enterprise North East and Small Business California.

“It’s never been more important to develop innovative ways to stimulate the growth of our private sector.

“This exciting new partnership reinforces Business & Enterprise North East’s commitment to making a real difference to the region’s economy, by working with world-leading organisations to help even more businesses of all sizes.”

Small Business California’s executive director, Hank Ryan, said: “With so much development in the UK addressing small to medium enterprise, carbon reduction strategies and electric vehicle production and adoption, the value of this co-operative relationship for Small Business California is easy to understand.”
