Middlesbrough Council spends over £120 million each year buying goods, products and services. We are keen for small and medium sized businesses to become part of the supply chain but understand it can be difficult to know where to start. As a result we are running a second series of free workshops to help you understand the procurement process and prepare your business for successful tendering.

Winning a contract marks the beginning of an ongoing relationship with a buyer. Contracts are not self-managing, and for delivery of contracts to be successful, good contract management is vital. Forming a consortium is becoming an increasingly popular and effective way to maximise contract opportunities and win public sector contracts. However, there are a lot of issues to consider when thinking of forming a consortium, including legal issues, cost and time, contract management and resources.

Training Objectives

This workshop will help participants to:

• Understand what contract management is and why it happens

• Consider the issues involved in delivering contracts as part of a consortium and what the implications may be for their organisation

• Understand the roles and responsibilities of those involved in the supply chain

• Have a better understanding of what being part of a supply chain means for their business

Audience

This workshop is targeted at people who are involved in, or responsible for, bidding for contracts, and for people who are involved in or responsible for delivering and managing contracts in their organisation.

Workshop Outline

An overview of contract management, looking at why it is important and roles and relationships including those for consortia and supply chain members.
