The introduction workshop covered aspects that left delegates with an appreciation of:
* Drivers for change - Government policy context for offshore wind; The Crown Estate and "Rounds 1, 2 and 3", size and nature of the opportunity for the UK.
* Wind power basics - History, global statistics, energy yields, jargon.
* What an Offshore wind project looks like - Development stages; components of a wind farm; operation and maintenance.
* Supporting the sector - how the key agencies and support bodies, trade and research organisations can help.
* Offshore supply chain - how wind farms are delivered, market structure, contract structures, key market players.
* Financing of offshore wind farms - electricity price support (ROCs), typical costs, approaches to financing.
* Business opportunities - engineering challenges (particularly synergies with oil & gas), known supply chain bottlenecks, skills and jobs, driving innovation (funding and support bodies).
The workshop was aimed at all businesses who currently work or have the potential to diversify into the wind sector.
